June Louise Way, 81, passed away January 2, 2011.
June was born February 20, 1929, to Arch and Leah (Bailey) Helton in Des Moines. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946 and attended DMACC. June was the director of YWCA’s child care facilities which included daycare, preschools, nursery and she directed the first infant daycare in Iowa held at the YWCA. She was also the activity director for Mitchell Village Care Center. June had been a member of Park Avenue Christian Church since 1943, where she was an elder.
June is survived by her son, Walter S.B. Way II of Jensen Beach, FL; daughters, Corinne Kealy of Des Moines and June Y. Steinbach of Stuart; brothers, Lanny Helton of FL and Robert Helton of TX; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Way.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Care Center or the Des Moines Police Department’s Benevolent Fund.
Private services will be held in Branson, MO at a later date.

June and Mae were the all grown up flower girls at our wedding in 1951
Over the years, she and Wayne did many things to help us. I remember especially in about 1995 when the basement of our studio flooded. The water was four feet high, so you can imagine how much damage there was.
she and Wayne pitched in and helped. Wayne wasn't in great health at theat time, so he sat out on the front sidewalk, making sure no one took anything.
June and Mae were the all grown up flower girls at our wedding. It was at Park Avenue before the new addition.
we celebrated many birthdays and weddings over the years. I remember the family reunion we had,
the picnic and the huge bubbles . It was fun.
I remember June and Wayne helping us when the Studio was flooded. We had four feet of water in the basement. June helped throw out and rescue items, Wayne helped by sitting out in front watching

I was saddened to see your mother had passed away. She always had a smile and was a notable icon at PACC.
She was the one who always came to visit when my Dad was in the hospital; bringing that smile along with some how are you doings and always a prayer to feel better.
My heart goes out to you guys. I know she will be missed but remember ... memories last forever.
