Mary Michael, 83, passed away at Mitchellville Care Center January 1, 2011, from a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born October 11, 1927, to Wilmer and Elsie Haworth in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Mary was a wonderful, loving mother to her five surviving children, Rene (Mary) of Bellingham, WA, Glenn of Glendale, AZ, Mark (Desirae) of Carson City, NV, Val (Becky) of Altoona, IA, and Annette Michael of Lone Star, TX. Also surviving her are twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and her two sisters, Dorothy Lenway of Des Moines, IA, and Viola White of Lone Star, TX.
Mary was a longtime member of the Walnut Creek Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, with a visitation with the family one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mitchellville Care Center for all their loving care provided to Mary.

Mary was very kind. I was only around for a short while, from 1992-3. I was not aware Mary passed. My condolences to all of the family, but especially Annette.

I will always remember the nights we stayed up until early morning playing Chinese Checkers, Yatzee and watching movies like Fiddler on the Roof. Everytime I see a Long John Silvers, I think of those Sunday lunches at Long with Genenvieve and Marilyn. And when I smell mint, I can taste those mint teas we would make from your mint bush on the side of the house. I still have the Indian Barbie I kept at your house with the home made dress you helped me make. Your favorite color was blue and you loved anything that involved horsed. So many memories will be instilled in my heart and will help me remember all the times I spent with you. You are and always will be missed Grandma Mary!

I will always remember all the silly times we laughed together.
Like when we would sit down to eat and when you weren't looking, I would hide your spoon. In time you would see it was missing, so you would go get another, when you returned, YIKES! here it is next to your plate ! So you went to put the other spoon back, When you came back, "HEY WHERE"S MY SPOON ?" It was gone again ! " OK, WHO TOOK MY SPOON ? " I would say "You left it in the kitchen", and off you would go to find it...
