J.H. Deeds

J.H. “Jay” Deeds, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 20 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm Friday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home where a vigil service will be held at 7pm . Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jay was born October 31, 1923 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Jay retired in 1985 from the City of Des Moines where he was a supervisor in the solid waste department. After retiring he moved to Lake Thunderhead at Unionville, Missouri. Jay and his wife moved to West Des Moines in May of 2006 to be closer to their family. He was a member of the VFW and St Mary’s Parish in Unionville. Jay enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years. In later years he enjoyed watching birds from his deck. He loved being with his grandchildren and family.
Jay is survived by his loving wife, Veronica; his children, Lynda Deeds, Jayme Cox and James (Lori) Deeds all of Des Moines, Bernadette McLeod of Gadsden, Alabama; his brother, Bob (Iris) Deeds of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta Easley, an infant daughter, Lynette Deeds, a grandson, Dale Rumbaugh, his sister Allean Williams and a brother, Vern Deeds.
