Service Details

David Clifford Holt, 79, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2010. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Monday, September 27th at 3:00 p.m., all at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.

David was born in Des Moines to John and Frances (Barile) Holt on March 19, 1931. He graduated from East High School in 1949. He worked for his father who owned Des Moines Feed and then for his uncle, Leonard Holt at Holt Firestone before starting his own successful business, Dave’s Campers. Dave attended Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church in Runnells where he was known as “The Candy Man”. His God, his church, his family, came first in his life. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, telling bible stories, camping with his Happy Hobo’s Camping Club, spending time with family and friends and making his fabulous bar-b-que’s.

Left to cherish his memory; his wife of 50 years, Alberta A. Holt; brothers, Hubert, Ralph, and Charles all of Des Moines and Paul of Florida; children, Linda (John) Elgin of Oklahoma, Diana “Bobbie” Duke of Des Moines, Gerald (Betty) Holt of Indianola, Luanna Evans and Edward Evans II, both of Des Moines; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Holt; brother, James; sister, Joyce Stollery; daughter, Verjean Fleek; and grandchildren, Margo Fleek, Joshua Duke and Jacob Holt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Missionaries of Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church.
