Landis Lowell Butcher, 82, passed away at Mercy Hospital on Thursday, August 5, 2010, on his son Lindsey’s 54th birthday and one day short of being married 55 years to his wife, Norma Oshel Butcher. He was born June 6, 1928 in Adair County, Iowa.

Landis served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, being stationed in Germany. During that time he and his Army friends bought a car and traveled throughout Europe. He was a member out of Legion Post 0060 and worked at Solar Aircraft Company retiring from John Deer in 1975 with ongoing heart problems.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, son Lindsey (Karen) and grandson, Jeremy; sisters, LaVonne Alexander and Lilia (Garry) Smith

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Nellie Norman Butcher, sister Lois Allen and brother, Lavelle.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9th, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Per keeping with his kindness to others, Landis donated his body to Des Moines University.
