Stephen Couture

Stephen Hollie Couture died May 24, 2010 in Des Moines, IA. He was born October 10, 1949 to Lyle and Ina Ham Couture in Sioux City, IA. The family moved to Ames, IA in 1965 where Stephen graduated from Ames High School in 1968. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Iowa State University in 1974 and his Master of Science in Business Administration from Boston University in 1982.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1974 and retired as a Sergeant First Class in Finance and Accounting after 20 years of service. He was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA; Baumholder, Germany; the Pentagon; Pusan, South Korea; Heidelberg Germany; and Ft. Bragg, NC. He and his wife Judith lived in Springfield, VA for many years before returning to Iowa in the 1990’s.

Stephen enjoyed many activities including the Cardinals and Cubs baseball, Grand Prix Formula I racing, and amateur radio. He was also an avid trivia buff in many different areas and he and Judith had season tickets to the Civic Center.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; his mother Ina; brothers, Larry (Kristi), Michael, Tom, James (Leslie), John (Cindy); sister Shirley (Jerry) Williams and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon in Des Moines. Funeral services will be in Ames on Friday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m., St. Thomas Catholic Church.
