Millie Cunningham, 66, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born April 25, 1944 in Des Moines to Carrie and Glenn Thomas. Millie had been the city clerk for the town of Mitchellville for 28 years. She was a member of Adventure-Life Reformed Church in Altoona. Millie loved playing board games with her grandchildren. She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening and baking.
Millie is survived by her son, Brian (Jonie) Cunningham; her daughter, Terri Cunningham; her grandsons, Joshua and Jacob; her brothers, Larry Thomas, Bob (Gwen) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord M. Cunningham, her son, Chris, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held 10 am Friday, May 21, 2010 at Adventure-Life Reformed Church, 1700 8th Street SW, Altoona. Burial will follow at Franklin Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Adventure-Life Reformed Church in loving memory of Mildred.

I was so very sorry to hear of Millie's passing. I am employed by the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau and I have worked with Millie at the Spring IMFOA conference the past few years. I missed Millie at the last one and inquired about her. Later, Pam Blessman was so kind to make sure that I knew of Millie's passing.
We had such wonderful visits and she was so positive in her approach to life and also in the way she faced adversity.
She spoke so lovingly about her family. I know you all will miss her. Please take comfort in the fact that many others are thinking of you and will miss Millie too.

I am so sorry for your loss. Millie always had a smile and a word of encouragement for me when I was a new city clerk. I will miss seeing her at the IMFOA meetings. May God give you strength and peace.

Millie was a great-aunt to me growing up and a significant part of my life. She will forever be in my heart. I am thankful she was there during the hard times for my father, Marty, my brother, Luke, and me.

I worked with Millie from November 2004 to June 2006. She was one of the main reasons I looked forward to working each day in Mithcellvilee. She was a good loyal and faithful employee for the city and showed concern for everyone around her. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

To Millie's family --
I want to extend my sincere sympathy to each of you in the loss of
your Mom, Grandma and sister. All of us who were her friends and acquaintances share in that loss.
As you know, Millie was one of those rare people now days -- she was gentle, respectful, and a lady. Those of us who knew her as a fellow city clerk, respected her loyalty and knowledge as we ejoyed her friendship.
I will miss her gentle spirit. May she rest in peace now with the angels.

To Millie's family,
My heart is broken for you. Millie was one of the genuinely good people in this world. For all she has gone through, she was never without a smile and a cheerful countenance. I will definitely miss her infectious laugh---especially when we were talking about work!!! She was a loyal, dependable helper for me with IMFOA and come this fall, it won't be the same without her saying "I'll be there". I will truly miss her.
May good memories and thoughts hold you up during this difficult time. All of you are in my prayers and thoughts.

I remember Millie as a hard working woman who tried her best at everything she did. They don't make them like Millie anymore. She will be missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Millie's passing. She has been a staple in our profession for many years. It will not be the same without her friendly smile at Iowa Municipal Finance Officers conferences.
I wish Millie could have enjoyed her retirement with her family and friends. Obviously God had other plans for her. May you find comfort in your memories and faith.

Millie was always so cheerful and always laughed at my stupid jokes she was a great person and i am glad i was lucky enough to know her....my heart goes out to her family
