John G. Dake

John G. Dake, 80, passed away at his home May 17, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

John was born August 21, 1929 in Coon Rapids, Iowa to Leonard Woodcock and Stella Irene (Lyons) Dake. He served in the U.S. Air Force. John worked for Firestone and was a member of the Local 310 UAW Teamsters Union. He enjoyed building ships out of matchsticks, putting together model cars and wooden covered wagons.

John is survived by his children, Debra (Scott) Huyser of Newton, Iowa, John G. (Margaret) Dake, Jr. of Wautoma, Wisconsin, Gracia (Richard) Ge Meiner of Mitchellville, Iowa and Leonard (Linda) Dake of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; like a son, Brett Phipps of Indianola, Iowa; former wife, Josephine L. Bennett; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon (Elaine) Dake, Tom (Linda) Dake and James Dake; sister, Judy (Ronald) Ellsbury; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
