Marjorie Lou (Smith) Williams peacefully passed onto the Lord and ended her courageous 10 years battle with breast cancer on Saturday, April 24, 2010.

Marge was the first of six children born on June 17, 1941 to Marvin and Mildred (Davis) Smith in Adams County, she was a small town girl from rural Prescott, Iowa. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1958 and then made the move to the big city of Des Moines. She was married on July 5, 1959 to Larry Lee Williams and to that union a daughter and son were born.

Marge worked for Meredith Corporation from 1961-2001 and she retired from Meredith in 2001 after 31 years of continuous service.

She was a wonderful Mom, Grandma, Big Sister and was loved by all of her family and her many friends.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mildred Smith, her ex husband, Larry Lee Williams and her brother-in-law, Del King. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Lenhart-Thomas (Roger Thomas) and her son, Michael Williams, her four wonderful grandchildren, Lisa Lenhart, Cassandra Lenhart, Kylie Thomas and Brian Thomas.

Marge is also survived by four sisters- Mary King of Hartford, Barb Somerville of South Carolina, Sherry (Mike) Gray of Prescott and Sandy (Larry) Williams of Des Moines and one brother, Ed (Donna) Smith of Carlisle, 7 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Marge would like to extend her greatest appreciation to Dr. Buroker, Michelle and Pat at the John Stoddard Cancer Center for the last 10 years of her life.

A memorial service will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown on Saturday, May 1 at 2 pm. Family will greet guests from 3 to 4 pm following the service. A Celebration of Marge’s life will be held at A.H. Blank Golf Course, 711 County Line Road, from 3:30 to 6:00 pm on Saturday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the ARL of Des Moines.

Private burial services will be held at Mt. Zion cemetery in rural Adams County at a later date.
