Roma Colton

Roma Colton, 83, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Valley View Village. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Roma was very active in her church and her community. She was a member of Union Park Baptist Church and was a past President of Church Women United of Iowa. Roma was one of the original organizers of the Des Moines Food Pantry. Later in life, her true passion was quilting. Every new baby in her church gets a quilt and Roma was a big part of that program for many years. She also helped to organize quilt making and distribution to the homeless and for International Aid.
Roma is survived by her sons, Steve Colton of Minneapolis, MN and Roger Colton of Boston, MA; sisters, Rita Porter and Coryl Pace; brother, Richard “Clyde” Hatfield; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester and son, Phillip.
