Catherine Elizabeth Kline passed away on Saturday, January 30th at Ramsey Village after a lengthy illness. She was born October 27, 1916 to Elizabeth (Hardie) and Clarence Jones in Boone, Iowa and had made her home in Des Moines since the 1940s.

Catherine was married on December 1, 1942 to Eugene L. “Dutch” Kline, who passed away in 1982. Catherine is survived by her children, Charlma Kile (Garland) of Nassau Bay, Texas, William E. Kline (Pamela) of West Des Moines, Jo Kline Cebuhar (John) of West Des Moines and John C. Kline (Michelle) of Urbandale, Iowa; her two daughters-in-heart, Linda Kline and Phyllis Kline; her grandchildren, Bradley Kline (Brandy), Melissa Timmerman (Erik), Jennifer Cook (Scott), Stephanie Mayo, Catherine Eleanor “Katie” Kline, John William “Jack” Kline, Rayann and Eva Schaffer; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily Timmerman, Ashley, Nicholas and Emma Cook, Braxton Mayo and Kristopher Kiger; many nephews and nieces; and her dear friends, Beverly and Glenn Love. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; son Wesley J. Kline; son-in-law, Roy Z. Fort; and grandson, Timothy W. Kline.

In her younger years, Catherine worked for the telephone company in Boone where she found many of her life-long friends. Catherine was an avid reader, loved antiques, and was an accomplished organist and pianist. Until her illness, she was a devoted volunteer at the Planned Parenthood “Bookworks”. She was recognized by the Governor for her volunteer work. Catherine was devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, planning wonderful activities during their summer visits. She was the “Great” grandma.

The family thanks the staff of Ramsey Village and Mercy Hospice for their loving care of Catherine. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice (5820 Winwood, Johnston, Iowa 50131) or the charity of the donor’s choice in Catherine’s name.

Services will be at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
