Service Details

Eddie Eugene DeYoung, 59, went to join his passed family members and dog, Sonny, in Heaven on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. He was born on August 30, 1950 to Jennie (Payne) and Edward DeYoung in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Sheri (Smith), his children, Brittany Telk and Charles Telk III, his siblings: Mary Goff, Connie DeYoung and Ron (Deb) DeYoung and his mother Jennie Hare. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward DeYoung.

Eddie began working for his father at DeYoung’s Meat Market where he became a journeyman meat-cutter. He then packed up his skills and worked for Hy-Vee as the meat manager for 34 years. When Eddie wasn’t cutting meat or working, he could be found outdoors; hunting, fishing or tinkering in his garage. His year was cut into four unusual seasons being bass fishing, duck hunting, goose hunting and turkey hunting or Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring respectively. Due to his zeal for the outdoors and all things fowl, he was an extremely active member in several organizations; The National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and B.A.S.S. In line with duck hunting, he was an accomplished dog trainer and won many awards for his handling in his younger years. He also enjoyed playing baseball or just throwing a ball around outdoors. Aside from his love for his family and outdoor sports, he was a die-hard NASCAR fan, rooting for any member of the Rousch racing team.

His love for the Lord and positive outlook on life inspired all who were lucky enough to meet Ed, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Ankeny Church of the Brethren, 417 SE Grant, Ankeny, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Brethren Cemetery in Elkhart. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, at the church in Ankeny.

Memorial contributions may be made to The National Wild Turkey Federation or for his children’s educations in loving memory of Ed
