Larry L. Winget, 67, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines due to complications of Pick’s disease.
Larry was born in Des Moines on March 21, 1939 to Webster and Abbie Winget. He graduated from North High School in January 1957 and soon thereafter went to work for Bankers Life (now Principal Financial Group) where he was employed for 39 years, retiring in March 1996.
He married his best friend and the love of his life, Carol (Conrath) Winget on February 24, 1973. They resided in Ankeny for 13 years and have lived in Des Moines for 20 years.
Larry was a very kind and gentle person and a very loyal friend. He enjoyed traveling, fishing in Canada with family and was an avid fishing lure collector. He loved helping others, family gatherings and also enjoyed music, particularly Southern Gospel and country. He has been a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and served his Lord there in several capacities. His faith was very important to him and he loved participating in Church activities and being with his Church family.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; one brother, Gerald (Ginger) of Des Moines; two sisters, Ida Belle Poage of West Des Moines and Eleanor (Gordon) Parker of Bend, Oregon; four brothers-in-law, Roger (Barbara) Conrath of Bondurant, Larry (Mary) Conrath and Audley (Sharon) Conrath of Des Moines, and Jim (Carolyn) Conrath of Waukee; along with many nieces and nephews to whom “Uncle Larry” was very special.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Audley and Doris Conrath; two brothers, Lynn and Jed Winget and one sister, Verla Jean Crosby.
The family will greet friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, February 16 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Grace Baptist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
