Service Details

Ronald James Snider, 73, Independence, MO, formerly of Des Moines, IA, passed away Dec. 13, 2009 after a long illness. A visitation will be held from 6–8 pm, Wed., Dec. 16, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Services will be 11 am, Mon. Dec. 21 at Hamilton’s East Chapel, 605 E. Lyon St., Des Moines, IA 50309; interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:30 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the East Alton Community of Christ Bldg. Fund, 16999 E. 23rd St., Independence, MO 64057; Hope Ministries/Bethel Mission, 1310 6th Ave., Des Moines, IA 50314.

Ron was born Oct. 5, 1936 in Des Moines, IA to Vivian (Hood) and Thomas Snider, the seventh of ten children. He lived in Des Moines for sixty-one years and moved to Independence, twelve years ago to help care for his wife’s parents. He worked for Plain Talk Printing Company for over twenty years. He then worked for the Des Moines School District and retired from there as chief operations engineer at Hillis School. After retirement he took up wood working and produced beautiful clocks for family and special friends. He loved playing golf, was an avid reader of Westerns and a lifelong sports enthusiast. He loved his family and thought his grandchildren were the greatest. He followed their athletic events and loved to visit with them about their ambitions and life choices. He was a member of East Alton Community of Christ.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles, Thomas, and Raymond; sisters Dorothy Reed, Virginia Sherod, and Diana Baker; and his mother- and father-in-law Carrie and J.W. Baird. He is survived by two sisters: Grace Main and Pat Holtman; one brother: Gary Snider; his wife Marian Snider, of the home; four sons: Ronald A. Snider and Debra, Randy Snider and wife Pauline, Rick Snider and Stephanie, and Jay Derry and wife Mercy; two daughters: Lisa Clark and husband Mark, and Leanne Condray and husband B.; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
