Jack Scrignoli
July 19, 2023
Jack Scrignoli, 76, passed away on July 19, 2023. He was born on January 17, 1947 in Duluth, Minnesota to James and Mary (Murphy) Scrignoli.
Jack attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, Dowling Catholic High School and AIB College of Business. His career was spent at Peerless Supply in sales. Jack got involved in the Central Iowa Purchasing Managers Association and Chapter 80 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He served multiple terms as president of both.
Jack had many friends. It didn’t take long to get to know him. He was known for his smile and laughter. Jack enjoyed sports of all kinds. He organized and played on several softball teams in several leagues every summer until his health prevented him from participating. Jack continued to organized and schedule teams after retiring from playing. He coached his children in sports and attended their school sports competitions, functions and performances.
Jack was involved with many South East Polk civic duties. He served on the South East Polk School Board from 2002-2005 and was SEP School Board President 2004-2005. Everyone loved him! He was as active as he could be, considering his physical limitations, in the Knights of Columbus. His favorite duty was working the Lenten Fish Fries. Jack got to see so many of his friends while welcoming them at the door to collect the donations.
He loved playing Santa for many, many children. Jack got a special kick out of visiting children of parents that he had visited years before when they were children themselves. He rarely missed a family gathering. The holidays and reunions were important to him.
Jack was a fighter. He loved life and wanted to hang on to it no matter what. He needed to go to dialysis three times a week for four hours at a time. He did this for over 16 years in the heat and in the cold and snow. He was determined to survive. He was “One of a Kind” and will be missed by many
Jack is survived by his children, Jamie (Tanya), Tony (Julie), Leah (Brian) and Pat; grandchildren, Sophie, Sylvia, Sam, Gina, Myles, Viviana, Aiden, Tommy, Scotty and Dominic; brother, Don Scrignoli; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Scrignoli and his sister Margaret Busick.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ss John & Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Avenue S., Altoona, Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Jack will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.

Don and family: I was so sorry to hear of Jacks passing. I remember the days on Gray St that I would run into Jack and just talk and joke for awhile. He was the kindest, most polite guy one could lay eyes on. I enjoyed so much talking and joking with him.
I am deeply sorry I couldnt make his funeral services however, it goes without saying, his spirit will always exist with his beloved family. His work continues with Jesus and he is alive and well in the arms of Jesus in paradise which he so truly deserved as a result of how he lived his life here on earth. May God give you all peace and comfort during this time and know that his life should be celebrated as a true blessing for all of you.

Jack was more then a friend he was like a brother to me. Over the past 65 + years we shared so many experiences that has left me with such wonderful memories. To his brother Don, his children and his nieces and nephews I know there are no words that will ease the pain, the grief you are experiencing but just know that I am here for you and share your sadness. Requiem in pacem brother Jack.
