FRED BOBENHOUSE
Fred Bobenhouse, 97, passed away at Deerfield Retirement Community on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
He was born and raised in Des Moines along with his five brothers, Carl (Irma), Vincent (Myetha), Robert (Nellie), Max (Alice), & Richard (Wilma).
Fred was inducted into the US Navy in WWII and said he got to travel halfway around the world. After returning home he took an apprenticeship and became a Tool and Die Maker at John Deere in Ankeny where he stayed until retirement after 42 years.
He married Norma Burnham, the “ love of his life “ and they spent 64 years together. They enjoyed traveling around the country, especially to Colorado. Fred loved being active & had been a swimmer, runner, triathlete and until recently still walked up to two miles a day. He was well known for his tomato & flower gardens and loved sharing them with his friends and neighbors.
Fred is survived by one brother, Max, NE, his son Steve ( Nancy) of Clive, daughter Sheryl Wright (Jim) of White Bear Lake, MN, daughter-in- law Johanna of West Des Moines, four grandchildren; Dustin Wright (Emily), SaraAnn Kelley (LJ), Jason Bobenhouse, & Jesse Bobenhouse (Amber), and three great grandchildren; Oliver Kelley, Isabella Bobenhouse, and Scott M Bobenhouse as well as a great many nieces & nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife Norma, son Scott and grandson Christopher Wright.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Beginnings Christian Church or the Animal Rescue League.
Visitation will be 5-7 Wednesday, July 26 and funeral services will be at 1 PM Thursday July, 27 at New Beginnings Christian Church, 8631 Hickman, Urbandale.

Steve, your father was a true gentleman. He was an outstanding model for living life fully and gracefully. When my dad passed, Fred was the only person not in the family who got to attend. My dad would have wanted it that way. Blessings to the whole family.

I was a neighbor of Fred's. I always enjoyed seeing him on his walks with Milo. He was determined when he walked and even declined a ride to his house during the derecho. He made it home.
My deepest condolences.
