Rickie “Rick” Frank Davis, born April 24, 1946, in Lake City, Iowa, completed his journey on earth May 20, 2023, after a six-year battle with cancer. The son of Ralph Everett and Irene Lucy (Trotter) Davis, he grew up in Calhoun County helping with the family farm. He attended Lake City High School graduating in 1965, after graduation he attended Fort Dodge Community College.

On September 8, 1967, he was united in marriage with Brenda Sue Boger at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Shortly thereafter they moved to Denison, Iowa where they lived for fifty-four years. Rick worked for IBP from 1967 until 1983 where he met his lifelong friends. In 1983, he purchased the Phillips 66 gas station “West End Service and Repair”, later moving the business to its current location where he retired in 2013. At West End Repair he enjoyed working with racing teams and sponsoring events. In 2021, to be closer to family, Rick and Brenda moved to Altoona, Iowa.

Rick’s hobbies and interests varied from trap shooting to RAGBRI. He participated in RAGBRI where he drove a support vehicle. He spent years as a photographer taking and developing both black and white and color photographs. Rick’s nightly ritual was hanging out in the aquatic center hot tub chatting it up with friends. He was a member of the Denison Jaycees and enjoyed assisting with the haunted house. Rick spent countless hours volunteering, everything from the food pantry to snow removal, he was always willing to lend a hand.

After retirement, Rick and Brenda wintered in Panama City Beach, Florida making several friends. They enjoyed biking and sharing their space with family and friends. They also loved traveling, venturing from the UK to Mexico. His love of driving extended to long trips never taking the same route twice.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darwin and Gary Davis; sister, LaDon VanHorn; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Edith Boger.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Davis of Altoona, Iowa; his daughters, Anne Marie (Dan Konosky) Davis of Denver, Colorado and Kimberly (Warren) Gleason of Altoona, Iowa; four grandchildren, Alexis (Drake) Geary of Des Moines, Iowa, Britt Gleason of Altoona, Iowa, Eleanor and Julien Konosky of Denver, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Lilith Geary; and his brother, Dennis Davis of Lake City, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. His funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Altoona Cemetery.
