Bernadine A. Murphy, 91, passed away on May 16, 2023, at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehab Center.

Bernadine was born on April 10, 1932, in Danville, Illinois, and raised in Westville, IL. She attended Schlarman Catholic High School class of 1950 in Danville, IL. She went to Nurses Training at the St. Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Urbana/Champaign. She worked at GM as a nurse. She married Miles Murphy and relocated to Indianapolis, IN, and had her first child. They then moved to Mountain Top, PA, and built a house where her next four children were born. They moved back to Indianapolis, IN for three years and then moved to Willoughby, OH for one year. They moved to Newburgh, IN for seven years and she worked at the Newburgh Library which overlooked the Ohio River. They moved to Corry, PA for five years and Williamsport, PA for five years where she worked as a nurse, on the third shift in a nursing home. They moved to Des Moines for four years and at first, she worked at the Franklin Library then provided daycare for her grandchildren. They moved to Norwalk, IA for 13 years and continued daycare until the girls were in Kindergarten. Due to a fall, she had to move to Carlisle Independent Living for three years where she could use a wheelchair around her apartment. After she fell again, she decided to move closer to her daughter in Norwalk at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab where she resided until her passing. This move made her happy because she was then able to see her daughter several times a week.

She enjoyed shopping and made the best Cream of Wheat in the world! She made grilled cheese every day for lunch in the summer because her granddaughter loved it. Bernadine and her granddaughter read the entire Dragon Slayers Academy books together. Every 4th of July Bernadine and her granddaughter were in charge of making homemade ice cream. She loved the time spent with her grandchildren.

The family will greet friends Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Drive in Norwalk. Bernadine will be laid to rest at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
