Francis "Butch" Burgess

Francis “Butch” Burgess, 76, passed away February 16, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Butch was born January 27, 1947 in Van Meter, Iowa to his parents John and Geneva Burgess. He was the middle of seven children. Butch held various jobs throughout his life including Methodist Hospital, concrete work, sheet rock, and truck driving. He was a hard worker and liked to stay busy. He was an avid Harley Davidson fan and rider. He was a member of the Grim Reapers known to his fellow members as “Bozo”, American Legion post 663, The Believers, and the Fam Damily. Butch also owned three street rods and was a member of the Concrete Cruisers and the Rolling Relics.
He was an avid gun collector and fisherman. Butch enjoyed tinkering, building model airplanes, and race cars. He was the king of one-liners and could make anyone laugh. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his friends, three fur-babies, and his family. He will be truly missed by those who loved him.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Kelly; children, Kelly (Phil) Short, Shonna (Kevin) Avery, and Michelle (John) Christy; grandchildren, Drake (Kristi) Holland, Christopher Clark, Chandler Clark, Leslie Soroka, Abigayle Christy, and Anthony Christy; great-grandchildren, William Elmer Stumme and Ashton Ray Clark; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneva Burgess; and sister, Diana.
No services are planned at this time.
Memorial contributions can be directed the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City in loving memory of Butch Burgess.

Sorry I never got that toolbox out of garage for ya but I think it got most use leaving it right were it was at!! I thank you for all my questions you answered and teaching me all I needed to know especially about welding(LoL). We love you and look forward to the next time we meet again. Like I promised I will try to keep up with Kelly or keep her busy and good at it! Be good.
