Randy J. Sackett, 60, passed away on February 11, 2023, after a brief illness while vacationing in Florida.

A life-long resident of the Des Moines area, Randy was born April 22, 1962, to Larry and Louise (Burchett) Sackett. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Grand View University with a BA in business, and Drake University with an MBA. An Eagle Scout, he played baseball for Roosevelt and Grand View.

He worked for the Ruan Companies for 15 years in various roles, including VP of Human Resources. Since 1999, Randy was President and CEO of Trans Iowa, a transportation firm providing taxicab and charter bus services for the Des Moines community and beyond. He spent six years as a board member for FUSE DSM, the Chamber of Commerce representing the East, North, and South sides of Des Moines, and guided the organization through the pandemic as board chair in 2020-21. He also was a 15-year board member for Paratransit Insurance Company.

Randy enjoyed golf, travel, watching movies, and spending time with his dogs. A member of the Iowa Brittany Club, he served on the board as VP and chair of the club’s spring and fall hunt tests sanctioned by the American Kennel Club.

Randy is survived by his wife, Jill; his father, Larry; his three dogs, Ryder, Josie, and Mugsy; and many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise; his sister, Laurie; and beloved dogs Katie, Solo, and Dixie.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Randy will be laid to rest at Des Moines Masonic Cemetery.
