William A. Hackett
January 06, 2023
William “Bill” Alan Hackett unexpectedly passed away at Methodist Medical Center on January 6, 2023.
Bill was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 2, 1955, to William and Jean Hackett. After graduating from Saydel High School in 1973, he would go on to work several jobs before eventually working as a breadman for Sara Lee Bakery for over 40 years to retirement. Even though he was late for his first date with his wife Alice back in 1986, they would go on to marry in 1988, and would raise their son Christopher together.
Bill was a loving father and husband who would spend his free time working on house projects (later helping his son and daughter-in-law with their own), spending time with his wife and grand-puppy, and going to parties and celebrating the holidays with many friends and family members.
Bill is preceded in death by his father William Hackett and brother Tom Hackett. He is survived by his wife Alice, mother Jean, son Christopher (Hannah), brother Gerald (Paula), sister Deborah Owens, sister-in-law Barb Hackett, grand-puppy Copper, and many nieces and nephews.
According to Bill’s wishes, cremation will occur and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

I'm sorry I lost touch with Bill after my retirement in 2007. I was a coworker for 25 years for Old Home and later Sara Lee He worked on labor negotiations also with myself and others which were not always that successful. He was a very hard worker and a great representative for the company. My sincere condolences to Alice and Christopher on his untimely loss. T

I knew Bill out in the stores, primarily Sam's Club and Wal-Mart Windsor Heights. I thoroughly enjoyed his personality and the way he would laugh almost silently. He was a quiet man who did his job and responded always with a gentle smile. When he announced retirement, I was both happy for his long-awaited reward and sad knowing the chapter I shared with him in the stores was ending. Bill was a competitor, but he always treated me with respect and friendliness. I am sorry his retirement years were not longer lived out. I had grown accustomed to seeing and talking with him daily. He had a wonderful way of viewing life. My condolences to his family and spouse. If Bill left this kind of mark upon a business associate, I can only imagine the legacy he left for his much loved family. I pray God's peace over you as you grieve his loss.

Sweet Alice, I am so very sorry for the loss that you and Christopher are enduring right now. I cannot imagine the overwhelming amount of sadness you are feeling and I sincerely hope that you are being surrounded by the light and love of those who are close to you, as well as the memory and spirit of Bill. If there is any way that I can be of support to you during this time - I know it can be hard to think of what you need, but I will be there for you if you need me. Sending you so much love. - Elizabeth
