Carol A. Tiernan-Williams, age 67, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at her home in Des Moines.
Carol was born December 11, 1955, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. She is the daughter of Bill and Frances (Tootsie) Powell. She was raised on the Southside of Des Moines and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974.
Carol retained many friendships with a lot of classmates from both schools to this day. Carol had many jobs over the years - she was the first female counter person at Kex Auto Parts; she owned and operated a Home Daycare for 16 years and to this day has friendships with the parents and kids who attended there; and also worked at Hy-Vee Food Stores from 1997-2001. She loved her coworkers and customers as well.
Carol had many interests and hobbies. She loved playing Women’s and Co-Ed Softball. She bowled for Noah’s Ark Juniors on Wednesday nights along with her mother’s team Noah’s Seniors. Carol enjoyed doing crafty things and her favorite hobby was thrifting at stores, finding items to strip and refinish.
Carol is survived by her three sons, John (Meghan) Tiernan III - grandsons Conley and Rory, Bill (Andrea) Tiernan - granddaughter Alexis, and Nick Tiernan - his baby Shaq; her brothers, William David Powell and Richard Powell; her sisters, Deb Richmond and Betty Powell; cousin, Craig Cosner; niece, Tonya Albizo; and nephew, Anthony (Christina) Albizo.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Williams; her goddaughter, Rochelle Hoopes; her parents, Bill and Tootsie Powell; and all her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins that have gone before her.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines. There will be a lunch following in the Parish Hall. Private burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery at a later date.
All donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School, 16 Columbus Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50315.

Still hard to believe you are gone. I see your kitchen light on in the house, as I have always seen for the last 10 years, and it makes me even more sad, because that light was my knowledge that you were home and ok!! We are going to miss you Carol Ann!! Rest In Peace my dear cousin!!
