Jerry Stockbauer of Des Moines, IA left this world on 12/18/2022 at his home to be with his many family, friends, and submarine shipmates who have gone on before him.

Jerry was born 4/30/1942 to Simon and Elsie Stockbauer. He graduated in 1960 from Des Moines Technical High School where he majored in TV & radio repair. He graduated on a Wednesday and left for Navy Boot Camp that Friday. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines except for the 20 years he spent in the US Navy. Upon finishing Boot Camp in 1960 he was assigned to numerous ships. While attending ET-A school Jerry was selected for orders to report to the Naval Submarine School in New London, CT for training. He then spent 15 years in the Submarine force serving on 4 different FBM Submarines while conducting 11 FBM deterrent patrols at which time he earned his Dolphins.

While in the service he married his wife Blanche and they had 5 children. Upon retiring from the US Navy he moved his family back to his home of Des Moines, IA at which time he worked at and retired from Iowa Methodist Medical Center as a Bio Medical engineer. He also owned Jerry’s Tasty Twist ice cream shops, sold mini donuts at the Iowa State Fair and he also enjoyed his traveling concession stand.

Jerry was involved with many Military Veteran Organizations which include US Submarine Veterans, Naval Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion Urbandale Post and the VFW Post 738. He also participated in many parades where he was able to proudly display his hand crafted fully functional USS George Washington Carver SSBN 656 submarine replica.

After the passing of his beloved wife Blanche of 36 years he married Mary Holmes Ehrig which they were married 23 years before her passing in July of 2022.

Jerry has a total of 5 children, sons Billy (Kimber) Stockbauer, Mike (Misty) Stockbauer, Jim (Linda) Stockbauer, Jeff (Sue) Stockbauer, and one daughter Jerri Stockbauer. He has 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews as well as 4 step-daughters and many step-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Simon Stockbauer, mother Elsie Stockbauer (Huzzy), brothers Simy Henry, Harold Edwin and George (Skeet) Evert, sisters Janet Marie Stockbauer, Kate Hodges and Agnus Saddoris, wives Blanche Stockbauer and Mary Stockbauer as well as his son Billy Stockbauer.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army on 6th Ave in Des Moines, IA.
