William "Bill" C. Sloan
November 24, 2022
***** DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE IS BEING MOVED TO THE FUNERAL HOME AT 11:00 AM TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2022. *****
William Charles Sloan, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022.
Bill was born September 15, 1936 in Carbondale, Iowa to James and Gladys (Decker) Sloan. Bill spent his younger years running a car lot selling used cars. He loved the Iowa State Fair and all animals. Bill was the most mischievous person but had the biggest heart, always wanting to share whatever he had, even if only just a piece of candy. He never forgot a Christmas. If he only had a $1.00 or $5.00 to put in an envelope, those little tokens were cherished by his parents, children, and grandkids. You could always guarantee there would be a box of chocolate covered cherries to share. Many people will miss Bill’s 7pm phone calls to check in for the day. Bill was always getting into trouble, even up until the day he passed, flirting with all the nurses at the nursing home and giving them all a hard time.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Tami (Randy) Randolph; granddog, Reba; step-children, Cathy Green, Tina (Jerry) Gering, and Sheri (Dan) Phipps; fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank (Bonnie) Sloan and Colleen (Jim) Adkins; sister-in-law, Betty Sloan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Gladys Sloan; step-son, David Green; grandson, Brandon Poore; and brothers, Donald Sloan, Junior Sloan, Jack Sloan, and Gerald Leon Sloan.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022, also at the funeral home, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Bill to assist with funeral expenses.
