Sharon Kay Oberender, 79, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Edencrest at Green Meadows in Johnston. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with the funeral service on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 10:00 am at New Hope Assembly of God, 4425 70th Street in Urbandale, IA. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Sharon was born February 28, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA to Glen and Mamie (Winegarden) VanOrsdall. She graduated from Des Moines Tech where she was head cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. Sharon was a long-time member of First Church of the Open Bible where she met her soulmate, John and also attended New Hope Assembly of God Church.
Sharon retired from Grand View College where she was a Circulation Librarian. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, baking, her church and loved all things purple. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Josh) Erickson; son, Mike (Beth) Oberender; grandchildren, Ashlee Erickson, Brianna (Kidd) Loop, Benjamin (Kayla) Oberender, Jacob Oberender, Samuel Oberender and Daniel (Noemy) Oberender; great-grandsons, Levi Erickson and Owen Oberender; brother, Gary (Linda) VanOrsdall; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; and son, John Michael.
