Chin Chheam Loeum

Chin Chheam Loeum, age 68, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Chin was born September 4, 1954 in the Pailin province of Cambodia to Nuth and Phim Pha Cheam. She came to the United States in 1979 and made a home for her family first in Grinnell and then in the Des Moines area for the past 43 years.

She enjoyed spending time with family cooking and sharing stories with her grandchildren about when they were babies and growing up as kids. She loved them, her extended family, friends, and the local Asian community.

She is survived by her daughter Chanthy Jackson, son Soklay Loeum, sister Choun Veng, sister Pun Cheam, her mother Phim Pa, seven grandchildren: Jasmine Jackson-Gersdorf, Taylor Jackson, Domoniek Loeum, Lauren-Kennedy Jackson, Miccah Loeum, Kaleb Loeum, and Jasslynn Shinn, and four great-grandchildren: Melanie, Audrey, Nova, and Liana-Madeline. Chin is also survived by her partner of many years, Sysouk Panyanouvong.

Chin was preceded in death by her father Nuth, son Roeutana Loeum, sister Lakmun Cheam, and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2022, also at Hamilton’s.

Chin will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed by her family and those who knew her. No matter the distance between us, Chin’s family both near and far away will take comfort in knowing she is watching over us and guiding us until we meet again. We will truly cherish the laughter, many stories and memories you have left behind to warm our hearts and strengthen our spirits. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Chin Chheam Loeum.
