Nick Carroll
November 03, 2022
Nickolas Joseph Carroll, age 15, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022.
Nick was born February 26, 2007, to Kevin and Denise Carroll in Des Moines, Iowa. Nick was very passionate about animals. He was called the pet whisper – he could get birds to listen to him from macaws to chickens. Great Danes were his passion, and he raised many dogs and showed them in competitions. To Nick, they were more than pets, they were something to be proud of, especially Bosley who was attached to Nick’s hip. He recently won Best Junior Handler with Bosley.
Nick was the kindest soul you could ever meet. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you asked. He was thoughtful and was always looking to help others.
Nick loved working with his hands – from helping his dad, Kevin, with the tractor, to mowing the lawn. He was very protective of his mom, Denise. He would always open doors for her, carry her groceries, and help with chores around the house.
Nick loved being the little brother to all of his siblings. The house was always open for each and every child who needed a hug, a snack, or just to be part of a family. Nick had a great off-the-wall sense of humor and when he smiled his entire face would light up.
Nick was a kind and gentle soul. This world needs more people like Nick. Be kind to others – give a helping hand, be compassionate, and love each other.
Nick is survived by his parents, Kevin and Denise Carroll; his siblings, Kasi (Josh) Metallo, Joe (Kayla) Carroll, Paul (Marissa) Carroll, Kristina (Shaun) Blackburn, Nick Bowman, Joshua Bowman, Henrey (Brittani) Bowman, Blake (Rico) Bowman, Johnathan (Kyla) Bowman, Noah Carroll, Tim Carroll, Riley (Christian) Carroll, and Serenity Carroll; his aunts and uncles, Joan Greimann, Laura (Christopher) Leise, Matthew Carroll, Brian Carroll, and Kelly (Pete) Gorrell; his great-aunt, Marlene Beadle; his step-grandpa, Robert Beasley; and many nieces and nephews.
Nick had so many important people in his life. Pam Talley - Nick thought the sun rose with Pam, and she was a grandmother figure to Nick. Michael Seeman – Nick met Michael through the dog shows. Michael was a positive and supportive influence in Nick’s life. Gerard Thompson – They connected through the dog shows, and far beyond that. Gerard was a mentor, and a support system for Nick.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph (Mary Sue) Carroll and Joyce (Stephen) Beadle–Beasley; his brother, Christopher Karns; and his great-uncle Paul Beadle.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, or to Iowa Parrot Rescue, 2479 Golden Avenue, Letts, IA 52754.

Dear Carroll family and to all who loved Nick. I am so sorry for your loss. We have never met, but my prayers will be joined with yours as you grieve. May this spur others to act as advocates for those who need support and to speak up when young people, especially, need our help.
