Dorothy E. Riccio, 93, passed away on October 4, 2022, at Unity Point Taylor House Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born August 20, 1929, in Creston, Iowa to Orval and Ethel (Means) Larson. She lived through the Great Depression and had an adventurous childhood living at one time in a rail car while her father worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. She moved to Des Moines as a teenager and graduated from Lincoln High School.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Catholics Women’s League, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Red Hat Society and The American Legion Auxiliary. She offered so much, to so many, through her volunteer opportunities.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Sue (Frank) Morano, Brad (Toma) Riccio, and Sally Spencer; grandchildren, Stefanie (Jeremy) Wells, Frank (Lorna) Morano, Tony Morano, Gina Morano, Chad (Stacey) Riccio, Todd Riccio, Johnny Riccio, Vanessa (John) Duncan, Margaux Beckett, and Jeff Spencer; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Riccio; parents, Orval and Ethel Larson; son, James “Jim” Riccio; and sister, Virginia Todd.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
She was loved by many, a role model of kindness and a giving spirit.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Christ the King Catholic Church or UnityPoint Hospice in loving memory of Dorothy.
