Dorothy Lucille Barnes, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Parkridge Nursing & Rehab in Pleasant Hill.

Dorothy was born September 18, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Orin and Ada (Stamper) Rupe. She attended East High School. She was the first woman union taxi cab driver in Des Moines. Dorothy was blessed to be united to her lifelong love, Bernard Barnes. They had six children together.

Dorothy worked for Burch Manufacturing as a seamstress. She also worked in construction installing siding all over Iowa with her husband, Bernard. She enjoyed crocheting, bingo, KFC fast food, especially their chocolate cake. She loved going to the casino, fishing, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Barnes; daughter, Linda Markle; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 128 great-great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Orin and Ada Rupe; husband, Bernard Barnes; and her children, Joe Barnes, Katherine Bishop, Sharon Ellsworth, and Walter Barnes.
