Peggi Priscilla Spors - born on November 12, 1945

In the early morning hours of October 2, 2022, our loved one let go of this world after an arduous battle to stay with us. Her family stayed by her side the last few weeks of her life and will forever be impacted by the valor she displayed in her final battle here on earth.

In one of her last moments, she declared one of the reasons she wanted to survive this battle was to advocate for others in the same situation. This was her spirit; she had spent a lifetime helping others. In the flood of 1993, she worked with the United Way of Central Iowa to aid those impacted with the financial restoration of their homes. She worked in social services for the Parent Infant Nurturing Center to help young families. She went on to direct several service centers for the elderly and implemented programs to advocate for the needs of seniors. She possessed a kind and thoughtful heart which was always leaning towards those less fortunate and in need of help.

She was a woman of strong spirit and possessed a streak of stubbornness that she harnessed for the service of others and to help her weather some of life's most difficult storms. She faced adversity with a grace that was admirable during one of her life's most heartbreaking events, when she had to bury her daughter Melanie in 1987 and her son Gary in 2021.
“Do not fear what you are about to suffer, be faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life" Revelations 2:10.

Her family finds some comfort and solace in her passing with the deep abiding faith she now has her children once again in her embrace.
"For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain" Isaiah 66:22.

She loved the mountains and took the courageous solo leap to live in Idaho at the age of 58 after having spent her entire life in Iowa near her family. While there she had the opportunity to work on a Mayoral campaign.

Up until the final months of her life she was still helping her family with needs they might have, because that was her heart and spirit. We were blessed to have her for 76 years, but there is always one more thing that needs to be said and one more thing we want to do together, there never really is enough time.

She loved nature and had an amazing green thumb, and loved taking her grandchildren to the botanical center. She was a young grandmother and got to enjoy her grandchildren well into adulthood. She was an ever loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and was happy to debate their glory with anyone with a different opinion. Peggi also loved Christmas with as much enthusiasm as any kid, and delighted in decorating the tree and buying presents and having them flow from around the tree.

One of her last wishes was to see the ocean again and listen to the waves...So, if you find yourself near the sea, say a little prayer of remembrance for her, will you please?

Peggi was preceded in death by her beloved children Melanie and Gary, her mother Alvena Viola Blackburn, her father Thomas, brothers Tom and Stacey Galvan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Raine, grandsons Ryan and Riley; her son Ed, two grandchildren, Mellie and Mason; her daughter Kathi, grandchildren Brandon, Brady and Breya; along with her sisters Connie and Luci; her much loved nephew James and his family Austin (Marissa), Harper, Buster, Taytum, Noah and Alexa.

Comfort your hearts with the knowledge that her final day on earth she declared she was ready to leave and so she went home.

Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50313 at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
