Scott C. Prine
August 26, 2022
Scott Christopher Prine passed away from cancer on Friday, August 26, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
Scott was born November 18, 1968 at that same hospital, to Laura and James Prine, III.
This beautiful boy brought so much joy and happiness to all that knew him.
Scott grew up in the Saydel Community, graduating from Saydel High School in 1987. He was an athlete from a small child until he was hurt in a motorcycle accident a month before he was 16. Scott was a wrestler, a football player, and played baseball.
At age 20 Scott and Mindy Brown, his high school sweetheart, were married. Together Scott and Mindy had three children, Jill, Mike and Maddie.
Scott’s career path included Quik Trip, Firestone, working for different concrete companies, in addition to working many side jobs on people’s homes and yards. So many people often said that Scott was the hardest worker they knew and he was so detailed with his work. Scott was union all the way and served as a union steward at Firestone.
He spent his entire life helping others. If someone asked for help, he would drop everything to be there and as his sister noted, Scott would give you the shirt off his back. He was especially caring and always there to help his Grandma Dolores Porter and his Grandma Juanita Stroud and of course his mom.
Scott enjoyed life, and some of his favorite activities were working in his garden and his yard, cooking and grilling, playing cribbage and backgammon, going to Prairie Meadows, mushroom hunting, repairing or fixing just about anything, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
Scott is survived by his paternal grandmother, Dolores Porter; mother, Laura Johnson; father, James Thomas Prine, III (Rhonda); daughter, Jill Marie Prine; son, Micheal Scott Prine (Keith Olson); daughter, Madeline Michelle Prine; siblings, James Thomas Prine, IV (Norrae), Kristopher Jay Johnson (Wendi), Hollie Kaye James (Tony), and Josh Walker (Stacy). Scott is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him and were involved with him throughout his life.
Scott Christopher Prine will be missed by family and friends forever.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2022, with a 2 p.m. service on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Scott.

I was so very sad to read that Scott had passed. Both he and Kathy were my students in 7th grade at Woodside Middle school and I loved them both. It breaks my heart to know that hes gone so young, I know that he will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. May the many happy memories shared during this time bring you smiles along with the tears of your mourning!

So sorry for all of Scott's family. Scott was so sweet to me. We would see each other at the casino and play penny machines by each other. We would have a good time talking about when he and my kids went to SAYDEL together. My son is Mike and Joe.

This is a shock to me, Scotty left us way to early. Scotty was a close friend of my family and he was always there for when I needed work done at my home. We had many good times when he would come out to visit my family at our lake home. R.I.P. my friend. And may God bless Scotty's family .

Scott was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. I got to know him when he did some work at my home for me for several years in a row.
He would under bid his worth every time because he didnt want to take advantage and then go twice the extra mile for the job.
Scott was one of those very special people who pass through your life that you cant help but like and admire.
He will very much be missed.
