Janet Nutt

Janet Marie Nutt, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 13, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

Janet was born January 12, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Navy and Hazel (Fraizer) Soloman. She attended school in Des Moines at Amos Hiatt Middle School, and later obtained her GED. Janet worked for the Des Moines Police Department as a Meter Maid for 33 years, retiring in 2002.

Janet met the love of her life, Fred Nutt, in her early teen years in 1953. The couple were married on February 5, 1956 at Foursquare Tabernacle in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union three children were born – Fred Jr., Timmy and Tammy. The couple shared 51 happy years together until Fred’s passing in 2007. Janet enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching western movies, camping, and going to garage sales. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Timmy Nutt; daughter, Tammy Phillips (Mike); eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Soloman (Sally); sister, Joyce Butler; and an abundance of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Navy and Hazel Soloman; son, Fred Nutt, Jr. in 1981; husband, Fred Nutt, Sr. in 2007; siblings, Norma Jean, Beverly Mickle, and Jerry Soloman; daughter-in-law, Mary Nutt; and her beloved dog, Daisy Mae.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery.
