Brian P. Samuelson

Brian P. Samuelson, age 52, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, after being diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2021.
Brian was born October 14, 1969 in Jefferson, Iowa to David Samuelson and Bonnie Samuelson Whalen. He graduated in 1988 from Jefferson Community High School. He was skilled in construction, and was a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees for 15 years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and loved fishing and sprint car races.
He is survived by his special friend, Gloria (Bug) Sickels and her daughter, Jeni; mother and step-father, Bonnie and Rich Whalen; brother, Steve Samuelson (Diana); step-brothers, Todd Whalen (Nancy) and Trent Whalen; aunts and uncle, Dennis Samuelson (Pat) and Beverly McCaskey, and Patty Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Brian was preceded in death by his father, David Samuelson; his grandparents, Bill and Laura Samuelson, and Orvie and Jeanette Johnson; and other extended family.
There will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. In acknowledgement of Brian’s special friends who would take him fishing and to the races, please wear your fishing or car racing shirts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family to be disbursed to charities that were close to Brian’s heart.

Sorry to hear of your passing. Your love of the Hawkeyes was contagious. I used to love going to the Hawkeye games together many moons ago as well as watching the sprint cars. Something about "Dirt in the beer" being a good thing. LoL. Rest in Peace Brian. I am saying prayers for all of your loved ones. Go Hawkeyes! Get em'!! :)

So sorry to see this. We were neighbors, classmates, road the bus together and made a lot of memories. Hadn't seen you or talked in years, but can't think of high school or J-Town without you being on the top of that list. I hope you had a good life and can finally rest. You will be missed.
