Jerry L. Barnes

Jerry Lynn Barnes, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, May 9, 2022, with his family by his side. He was a southside resident of Des Moines his entire life. He was a wonderful man who loved his family and was always there to help a family member or a friend with a home project or tinker on an old car like his own 56 International he named Bippy. He loved playing pool, watching NASCAR and Wheel of Fortune on TV. He spent almost 50 years as an OTR truck driver, 25 years with Pulley Freightliner, and loved sharing his stories with anyone who was there to listen. He was a friend to many. He was a great dad and grandpa and the best great grandpa and Papa. The title he cherished most was that of husband. He was married for 41 years to the love of his life, Pat Barnes. The two shared many years being the best of friends and soul mates, doing what they loved best - spending time with family. They had 9 kids between them, 21 grandkids, 26 great grandkids, and 1 great-great grandson.

Services will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the services.
