Service Details

Linda Marie Lacona passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28th. She took her last breaths surrounded by family after fighting terminal illness for many years.

Linda was born on October 3rd, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa to her loving parents Frank and Lila (Orbon) Lacona. She was a native to the south side of Des Moines attending St. Anthony's Catholic Church and graduating from Lincoln High School. Growing up in a large family she was equated to be best known for her free spirit, care for animals, and love for nature.

"Minnie" as named by her younger sister Lou Ann, was the first and last to anything sweet. She particularly enjoyed circus peanuts and root beer barrels as years went on, but she was always making a trip to the candy shop. Linda would often be found returning pop bottles at the five and dime to get her daily dose of sugar.

Linda worked at the downtown Younkers early on before finding a career at the Postal Service. Throughout this time, she lived with her first of many cats, Jo Joe. Her course was soon changed when she gave birth to her only son, Ryan. From that point on she worked many jobs as a single parent doing all to support her small family. She would never shy away from an opportunity to say yes to her son but equally important for her was to care for stray or orphaned cats.

Outside of the home she loved to be where it was warm. You could find her walking family dogs; Spud, Keola, Tom, Jerry, and many others. As a fair skinned Italian, she would compete with her niece to be the first to get the most sun in the spring. She tended to her parent’s garden which translated into her later years at her Johnston residence.

Linda loved all her family and cared for them dearly. Many were fortunate to receive a dated card or letter. She enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and continued her tradition of saying "yes" to any of their wishes. Linda was especially proud of her niece, Angie, for supporting the final months of her mom Lila's life.

Linda is survived by her son, Ryan (Elise) Lacona; grandchildren, Adelaide, Matthias, Emaline, and Dominic; sister, Teresa Johnston; and her grand puppies, Dexter and Rocky.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lila Lacona; sister, Patty Funaro-Stover; sister, Lou Ann Lemmo; brother, Frank Lacona; and relatives Momo, Marilyn, Patty, and David.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Linda will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.
