James Patrick Downey

James Patrick Downey, 91, passed away April 23, 2022. Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines on Saturday, June 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

J. Patrick was born on October 17, 1930 to Leo and Amelia Downey in Menlo, IA. He graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1948 and worked for the Des Moines Register for 15-years in the business office before moving to Pasadena, CA where he was employed by the Los Angeles Times as the general accounting manager for 25-years. He retired in 1992.

In retirement, Pat enjoyed many years as a volunteer. He returned to Des Moines in 2012 and lived at Edgewater in West Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anne Porterfield, Colatte Downey and Mary Agnes Simons; and many aunts and uncles.

Pat is survived by nieces, Lisa Stang and Laura Luke; and nephews, Mark and Mike Simons.
