John DeWitt St. Clair passed away from heart failure at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Sunday, October 29, 2006.
John was born in Beatrice, Nebraska. He lived in Nebraska until age 12 when he moved to Miami, Florida. After attending the University of Miami he went to work for Finlay Fine Jewelry where he worked as a group manager for 37 years in Miami, Toledo, Ohio, Des Moines, Charlotte, North Carolina, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He took a two year leave from Finlay to serve as an MP in Vietnam. Upon retirement from Finlay he worked in sales at Des Moines Chrysler.
John loved to travel and visited most of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church where he served in many ways including acting as area coordinator for Episcopal Marriage Encounter in Indiana.
John was a charming, generous and gregarious person who will be greatly missed. He dearly loved his family. He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons John, Jr. and Gregory both of Pittsburgh; his mother; his sister; his brother; four nephews; and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Ministries of Des Moines.
