Mike entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 25, 2009.
Mike was born on March 28, 1957 to Elmer and Charlotte Hysell of Colfax, Iowa.
Mike will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 31 years, Gloria; children, Ashley (Jeff) Millet and Heather (Blake Dilks) Hysell; parents, Elmer and Charlotte Hysell; brothers, Terry (Monica) Hysell and Gary (Kim) Hysell, sisters, Barb (Steve) South, Deb (Mark) McGee and Brenda (Eric) Harmison; extended family, father-in-law Bernard Mengwasser; brothers-in-law, David (Susan) Mengwasser, Kevin (Robyn) Mengwasser and Mike (Lisa) Mengwasser; sisters-in-law, Val (Jack) Naset and Renee (Mike) Ross; 24 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Mike was grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Karl Chevrolet family for 29 years. He was a loyal Hawkeye fan – Go Hawks! He truly loved spending time with family and friends. Mike touched many lives and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a lifelong member of Hickman Road Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Hickman Road Church of Christ, 5217 Hickman Road in Des Moines. The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at the church with burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in loving memory of Mike. Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mike they say, The Lord works in mysterious ways if this is true, you must have been one of his favorite tools.
You softly and quietly displayed many of His favorite virtues to us throughout the years we were privileged to have you.
You taught us the true meaning of courage.
Courage to face any challenge, no matter how great, and to confront it to the best of our abilities. To never give up and continue to try and overcome it, to come out on top.
You taught us Hope.
Hope that no matter how dire our situation seems, there may be an answer for us around the next corner. Hope inspires us and keeps us going.
You taught us loyalty.
Loyalty demonstrated by your family, friends and co-workers, who stood beside you and tried to remove some of the burden that was placed upon your shoulders.
You taught us Faith.
Faith in God, that He has a purpose for what he does and to never give up your faith in Him.
You taught us Love.
To freely and unconditionally love the ones we care for. Show and tell them we love them always.
You taught us humor.
That laughter is the best medicine; it brightens the spirit and lifts the soul. That God is always with us and he enjoys a good laugh too.
Finally, as we gazed upon the pictures your family and friends selected to represent your life and we remember how you lived it, you teach us a final lesson. You were always there with a big grin saying, who knows what tomorrow will bring, so lets live today to its fullest!

Our prayers are with the Hysell family. My husband and I were blessed to have known Mike from Karls. He was an inspiration to everyone and taught us that life is a gift. Years ago he told me about the scar on his head. I was amazed at his outlook on life and how happy he was. I will always remember that.

Dear Gloria and Hysell Family,
Words can not describe the depth of loss we feel, as well you know too. I just want to say that I am so grateful for Mikes friendship. I hope that we helped each other by sharing our battles with each other over the years, I know that it helped me just having someone that knew 1st hand.
My thoughts and prayers will be with all of his loved ones at this very difficult time, and everyday that I walk thru the doors to come to work and miss his smile and his "Hello", you will all be on my mind and in my heart.

I am so happy to have met you and your family in Mitchellville. You were great neighbors. Mike and I were like brothers from the start. He made me laugh and taught me alot about Life and God. I know he will be rooting for the Hawkeyes from above. The Earth lost a great man, but he now has a "perfect" body and is in the healing hands of the Father.
Rest easy, Mike. We will all be together again.
