Marjorie Jordan
February 28, 2022
Marjorie “Marj/Marjie” Jordan passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. We are so sad, but find comfort in knowing she is at peace, and with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Marjorie Elaine Darrall Jordan was born November 10, 1935 in St. Paul, MN, the only child of Percy and Edna (Swenson) Darrall. Marj grew up in Minnesota, living in Rochester and Waukon (Mille Lacs Lake). Marj moved to Des Moines during her senior year of high school, graduating from Des Moines Technical High School and then Drake University, with a degree in Elementary Education. Marj met Wesley “Bud” Jordan at a jam session and they married in 1956.
Marj’s careers included kindergarten teacher, floral shop owner (Angel’s Florist of Brandeis) and Younkers cosmetic department maven. Her favorite “career” was mom to Kari and Juline. A highlight of Marj’s life was becoming Mimi to grandkids Sam and Kelli. She was an awesome Mimi. Family and friends were Marj’s priority; she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was caring, thoughtful, supportive and generous, always putting others’ wants and needs ahead of her own. Marj was the queen of random-acts-of-kindness. She enjoyed giving back to her community, volunteering for many organizations over the years. Marj enjoyed reading the paper or any other type of literature, clipping articles, and mailing/delivering said articles to lucky recipients. (She had an impressive scissor collection.) Marjie was a spirited Norwegian with some of the best one-liners ever. She had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh and have fun.
Marj was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Edna Darrall, and step-mother Alice Darrall, who was a blessing to the entire family. Left to carry on her legacy are her two daughters, Kari (Rich) Schulte and Juline Jordan; and grandchildren, Sam Schulte and Kelli Schulte. She is also survived by her former husband, Wes Jordan; step-sisters, Darlene (Don) Anderson and Diane (Doug) Heskin; and numerous relatives.
With deep gratitude, the family thanks the staff of Wesley Life Hospice, Edgewater, and Woodlands Creek for the loving care that Marj received over the years. They are also thankful for all of Marj’s friends who have walked beside her throughout her journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, IA on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a livestream at https://hopeonline.tv/specialevents. Fellowship time with the family will follow the service.
At Marj’s request, her body was donated to Des Moines University for medical education. Private burial will take place at Jordan Cemetery in WDM at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marj to the Animal Rescue League, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, IA 50313; Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 71331, Clive, IA 50325; Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, WDM, IA 50266; or Wesley Life Hospice, 4328 114th St., Urbandale, IA 50322.
