Marilyn L. Larson

Marilyn L. Larson, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by her family.

Marilyn was born January 15, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Floyd T. and Doris E. (Goff) Burton. She worked as a physician’s assistant during her working years. She married Richard Wayne Larson and they enjoyed 59 years together before his passing. Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge, watching old movies, and listening to radio programs. She was very fashionable and was always color-coordinated, including her shoes. Marilyn and Richard loved dancing and they could always be found out on the dance floor. She had a good eye for design and was known as the “Sheridan Park Home Designer.”

Above all else, family was the most important love for Marilyn. She loved having Sunday dinners for the entire family and her grandchildren were her most cherished treasure.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Chris (Jim) Romar, Jeanne (John “Tim”) Nichol, and Susan (John) Malloy; grandchildren, Eric, David, Matthew, Angela, Erika, Erin, Sarah, Ashley, Amy, Richard, Nicholas, Gregory, and Amber; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Linda) Burton; and many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard; parents, Floyd and Doris Burton; and her great-granddaughter, Hayden.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA followed by a luncheon. Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
