Robert Todd Gerster
of Pleasant Hill, Iowa

Robert Gerster, age 63, passed away at his home on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born on May 12, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Robert’s family shortly after, moved to California, Missouri, and most of his growing up was in Kansas City, Kansas, before moving to Iowa.

Robert worked in Computer Science and also taught diabetic classes at the YMCA. Robert was always active in the churches he attended throughout his life, and especially enjoyed teaching AWANA for 15+ years and volunteering at events for Marshalltown churches as a sound technician.

There are so many admirable qualities that Robert encompassed. He was an engaged listener who made a difference in all the lives that he touched. He never stopped learning and loved playing all games, especially playing challenging brain games and was known to be quite competitive. He was one of the best storytellers and such a kid at heart, he never missed an opportunity to crack one of his famous dad jokes or play a practical joke on someone. Robert took pride in living a healthy lifestyle and enjoyed running. He will be remembered most as the rock of the family and for his patience and kindness. Robert loved his family very fervently, more than life itself and will be deeply missed.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of just shy of 40 years, Pamela Gerster; children, Ryan (Jessica) Gerster, Jonathan (Renee) Gerster, Catherine (Nathan) Petersen, and Elizabeth (Austin) Piontek; grandchildren, Jonah Petersen, Evelyn Petersen, and one on the way; mother, Shirley Wyngarden; and sister, Bonnie (John) Meyer.

Robert was preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Wyngarden; grandfathers, Robert Gerster and Albert Cobb; grandmothers, Isel Gerster and Emma Cobb.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, with funeral service following at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
