Dennis Crabtree

Dennis Calvin Crabtree passed away on January 21, 2022. Dennis was born on October 5, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa to Roy Calvin Sr. and Hilda (Matzinger) Crabtree. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1952. He received a BA degree in Physical Education from Simpson College in 1956. Dennis served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. Later, he received a Master’s degree from NE Missouri State in 1970.

He taught high school and was an administrator for a combined 23 years. Dennis worked for Iowa Sight and Hearing Foundation, Iowa College Student Aid Commission, and was a volunteer for IRIS. He was awarded State of Iowa Volunteer Award by Governor Branstad, the Lions Warren Coleman Honorary Award by the Iowa Lions Foundation, the Iowa Bud Clive Leadership Award, the Lions Ralph Whitten Service Award by Lions of Iowa and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, and also several District, State, and International awards.

Dennis was a 50-plus member of the Lions Club and a longtime faithful member of Staves Methodist Church. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, as well as a stamp and coin collector.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linda (Tuttle) and is survived by sons, Scott (Renee), Lynn, Trent, and Rob; step-children, Randy Tuttle and Kelli Mahlow; 13 grandchildren and 3 step-children; his brothers, Phillip (Christy) and Roy (Sandy), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lions International or Staves Memorial United Methodist Church in loving memory of Dennis.
