Service Details

Agnes Marie Thomson, passed away on January 17, 2022, just shy of her 79th birthday. Agnes was born on January 28, 1943 to Ludwig and Evelyn Maras in Jackson, Minnesota. She attended Luverne High School and was known as the prettiest girl in town. As 1 of 13 children she learned early on to be a care giver. First to her younger siblings, then to her children and many nieces and nephews. Agnes worked many years as a waitress, cleaning houses and businesses, and lastly at Prairie Meadows.

Agnes had so many funny quirks that made her so great. She loved all kinds of music, from country, to rock and roll, to gospel. Her favorites were Elvis, Marty Stuart, Daniel O’Donnell, Joey + Rory, and Kid Rock. She loved all things Hollywood and Royal. Agnes could watch hours of reality TV, the Kardashians being her favorite.

There are so many things that Agnes will be remembered for. Her love of coffee, cigarettes, and the morning paper. She also loved food! From steak and shrimp to all the sweets treats. Her girls loved spoiling her with all her favorites. Agnes loved a good garage sale and antiques. She loved flowers, especially her roses and peonies. She would spend hours playing catch with her girls as they were growing up. Later on, it would turn into going to her granddaughter’s softball games. She loved any event her grandkids were in and insisted on going even when her health was declining. And most of the time, you could find her dressed head to toe in pink, her favorite color. Agnes was always a kid at heart. She loved a good parade, looking at Christmas lights, collecting Barbies, and going on convertible rides.

Left to remember her are her daughters: Jackie (Jim) Barkmeier of Champaign, Illinois; Jen (Tim) Morgan of Runnells, Iowa; Jeri Thomson of Altoona, Iowa; Julie (Johan) Sander of Altoona, Iowa; and her grandchildren: Mason, Lila, George, and Louise. She is survived by her siblings: Theresa Radke, Diane Klaahsen, Mary Moorshead, and Dominic Maras. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Francis Maras, Eugene Maras, Anita Haggar, Bertha Hassebroek, Louis Maras, Bernard Maras, Donald Maras, and Phillip Maras.

Her family would like to thank all her excellent health care providers. They all went above and beyond and it meant a great deal to her and her daughters.
