Norman A. Erickson
Des Moines
Norman Arnold Erickson, age 84, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his home at Calvin Community in Des Moines.
Norman was born January 30, 1937 in Portland, North Dakota to Aurther and Anna Loise (Odegaard) Erickson. He was a resident of Grinnell, Iowa for 50 years prior to moving to Des Moines. Norman was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked for office supply companies during his working years as a service technician for typewriters, printers and copiers.
Norman loved photography and going to auctions. He also enjoyed music, and playing his guitar with friends, you could always find him wood working, tinkering in his garage, and fishing whenever he had a chance. Norman enjoyed being a member of St. Johns Lutheran church and was a past president of the Grinnell Ruritan club. He always made time when friends would stop by to chat. And even after retirement, he still gave back by driving veterans to Iowa City appointments.
He is survived by his son, Mathew Jon Erickson; daughter, Susan Marie Thill; son, Jason J. Erickson; and his brother, Donald Lief Erickson.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Irene (Bushkofsky) Erickson; parents, Aurther and Anna Loise Erickson; sister, Margaret Anne Werts; and brother, Erling Erickson.
A celebration of life will be held later in spring.

Nona has many fond memories of"Normie". She was one of his. rural school teachers before she married his uncle Norman. Normie and his siblings frequently reminded Nona that their uncle was very nice and single and coming home soon from the Merchant Marines! They must have been persuasive because they married ayear later! She remembers Normie as being easy going and friendly "without a mean bone in his body".both as a student and as he grew up a mile from the original Erickson homestead where Nona and Norman lived. I have similar memories of Normie as I grew up and always thought he was friendly and nice even to silly young cousins! We are sending sympathetic thoughts and prayers for you at this sad time and hope happy memories bring you comfort in the coming days.
