David Stout

David L Stout, 83, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born the son of Lester and Veva (Sullivan) Stout on June 26, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa. He was a member of the Park Avenue Christian Church where he was an elder, a member of the choir, and a member of the drum players.

David graduated from Culver Stockton in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Drake Seminary at Drake University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Divinity, and Texas Christian University with a Master of Theology. He became an Ordained Minister in 1965 with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and faithfully served God in numerous churches in Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, and Michigan until his retirement.

Anyone who knew David knew he had a story or joke for every occasion and was always willing to share them.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Bryan (Lynnette) Stout and Brenda (John) Schwechel; grandchildren, Ben (Alix) Schwechel, Bryce Stout, Breanne (Ian) Martens, and Brock Schwechel; great-grandchildren, Isabell Schwechel, Eliza Martens, Irelynn Schwechel, and Easton Martens; brother-in-law, Mark Ballinger; sisters-in-law, Sharon, Shirley and Jean Ballinger; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn; his parents; and brothers-in-law Carl, Les, and David Ballinger.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rev. Stout will always be with me. His suggestion I attend a weekend retreat over Thanksgiving weekend 1972 changed my life and faith life forever. I began a more earnest walk with Christ which led me to Culver-Stockton. It also laid the foundation for me to meet my wife. My son Jeff found his wife at the same camp venue in the early 2000s Rev. Stout took me to in 1972. God bless your life and your ministry. So glad I got to see you last week.
