Evelyn "Evy" Rogers

Evy Rogers, 76, passed away October 19, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston Iowa, with her family at her side. She was born December 1, 1932 in Polk County to Florence and Ray Spoonhaltz. She graduated from Lincoln High.

Evy worked for Johnny and Kay's for many years before opening Evy's Lounge at 12th and Grand in 1968. She owned and operated Evy's until 2004, where she truly cherished her patrons.

Evy was a generous and loving person, always helping others. Her huge heart made room for many people. She did everything for her kids and grandkids. She loved to cook and entertain, enjoyed planting, working, cleaning and decorating for every holiday. Evy just always had to be busy. She did everything for her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her children; Cindy (Mike) Lagomarsino, Jo Gillespie, Michael (Jill) Gillespie; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Ben Collins and nurse Elaine, the home nurses Stacy, Marilyn and all the staff at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

At last mama you are free of your pain and agony and will always remain close to our hearts. Thank you for being such a warm and loving mother.

A celebration of Evy's life will be held Friday, October 23, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. A visitation will occur two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery in Des Moines Iowa.
