December 18, 2021
Stephen Wright, 73, passed away peacefully December 18, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29 at 11:00 am at The Mission Church, 12001 Ridgemont Dr in Urbandale. Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 28 from 5-7 pm also at the church.
Stephen was born February 2, 1948 to James Gilman and Frances Irene (Hutchcroft) Wright in Burlington, IA. He graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1966 and continued his education by receiving a Bachelor of Industrial Administration Degree from Iowa State University in 1971. He married Esther Woolf on August 30, 1980 and they enjoyed 41 years together. Stephen was a Computer Programmer at UnityPoint Health Systems for 33 years and retired in 2014. He was a proud member of the US Army Reserves.
Stephen was very involved with his church. Volunteering to work with the children as an Awana leader, being a part of a men’s prayer group and a Stephens Minister were just a few of his activities. He also was a soccer coach, ran the scoreboard for the Des Moines Christian varsity basketball games, was involved in the Drake International Student program and was a big Iowa State Cyclones fan.
Stephen was also a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of God who had a servant’s heart. He leaves a legacy of caring and compassion that will live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Esther (Woolf) Wright; children, Benjamin (Chanda) Wright, Huxley, IA, Laura Wright and Daniel Wright, Grimes, IA; and grandchildren, Jonathen, Katelynn and Lillie Wright all of Huxley, IA; sibling, Jeannene (David) Wiseman, Cary, NC; nephews, Jesse Wiseman, Raleigh, NC, Seth (Cassandra) Wiseman, Boston, MA; and grand-nephews, Wyatt Wiseman and Gavin Wiseman both of Boston, MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Wendell.

I grew up in Mediapolis with Stephen. Many years since we would have had contact. Always with a smile and a concern for others. I would think that he was a tireless worker to make others successful. Blessings to your family. I no longer live in Mepo but enjoy former contacts. With her permission, could you send me his sisters address.

Esther, Laura, Daniel, Benjamin and family. We are so sad for your loss of husband and father and grandfather. Steve's was a well-lived life. We have been recalling many wonderful memories from our youngster days of cousins growing up together. Wishing you peace and the memories that will sustain you through your grief.
