Sally Price, 86, was born June 14, 1935 to William and Catherine (McGlone) O’Brien in Creston, Iowa. She passed away on December 16, 2021 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, IA from heart failure.

Sally lived in Des Moines most of her life and attended St. Peter and All Saints schools, graduating from St Joseph’s Academy in 1953.

Sally married John Jude Smith on June 14, 1958, and they had four children. Sally and John spent their years together camping with the kids, remodeling their home, and serving in many capacities at All Saints Catholic Church. John passed away in 1974 from heart disease.

She married Neil Price in 1983. They traveled on many vacations including Ohio, Florida, and Las Vegas. Through Neil Sally developed her love of the Chicago Cubs and attended a game with Neil and her girls. Neil passed away from heart disease in 2001.

Sally was a lifelong volunteer. She was a member of Highland Park Kiwanis, All Saints School Board, Parks Festival Committee, Kiwanis Riverview Nature Island Board and many other groups. She volunteered at the schools, participated in PTA, and never missed any of her children’s activities. She was a strong advocate for her community, and spent many years fighting to keep North High School and Oak Park Elementary schools open.

In her free time, she enjoyed camping, playing games, shopping and just spending time with her family and friends. She was famous for her smile and positive outlook.

Sally is survived by sons Doug Smith of San Jose, California, and Bill (Mae) Smith of Wichita, Kansas, daughter Joane (Barry) Clark of Polk City, sister Sharon (Tom) Clarke of West Des Moines, sister in law Billie Uitermarkt of West Des Moines, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands John Jude Smith and Neil Price, her daughter Diane Schmidt, her parents, and brother Jim O’Brien, along with many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions can be made to All Saints Catholic Church or Sunny View Care Center Activities Department in loving memory of Sally.

The family would like to thank Sunny View Care Center for their loving care over the last 7 ½ years, as well as Suncrest Hospice for providing comfort in her final days.
