Kathy Mae McClemons
November 26, 2021
Kathy Mae McClemons, 73, died November 26, 2021. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Friday, December 10, 2021 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by the service at 12 noon.
Kathy was born April 19, 1948 in Des Moines, IA to Virgil and Audrey McDaniel, the youngest of their seven children. A proud east-sider, Kathy graduated from Adams Elementary, May Goodrell Jr. High and East High School. She married the love of her life, David McClemons and the couple raised their 3 children on the east side as well. Kathy was primarily a homemaker but later worked for JC Penny’s and Central Tractor.
She enjoyed fishing, attending sporting events for her family, concerts, gambling, playing cards and being with her family. In addition, she was an avid Hawkeye, Vikings, Cubs, Des Moines Thunder, SE Warren Warhawks, Carlisle Wildcats and Waukee Warriors fan. She loved to support her family and their activities! In addition, Kathy was quite the performer. Always keeping her family entertained.
Her kind heart supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Grandview Little League.
She will be greatly missed by her sister, Judith Karol (Larry) Bowlby of Des Moines; her daughter, Elizabeth (Mark) Thornton of Lacona; her sons, Robert James (Tracey) McClemons and Matthew David McClemons; her grandkids, Robert (Alisha) Thornton, Skylar (Patricia Hernandez) Thornton, David (Hannah Perkins) Thornton, Kaylie Mae (Scotty) Hayes, Nicholette Vance; and great-grandchildren, Kaffrey, Easton, Isabella, Ellaina, Riley, Everly, Carter and Cameron.

Today was tough. Saying goodbye to someone who meant so much to all of us. I'm grateful for the time we had together and have great memories of your visits to Colorado. Such a special person. One of a kind. Give Uncle Dave a big hug and kiss. We love you very much.🤍

Cruising through my life's memories with Auntie.. So many wonderful memories. She was the life of the party. Always happy to see you. Smiling laughing and telling stories. She's a void we can't refill. I'm so very sorry to everyone

I am so very sorry for your loss Beth and the whole family. I have so many memories of Kathy when we were in Jr High and I actually had talked to her a few weeks ago and told her we needed to get together. When Donna came to town we got together with Kathy a couple of times in the last couple years or so. Will never forget how I met you Beth either at Penneys beauty salon. My prayers are with you and the family and may God Bless you in this time of sorrow.
Kathy was a great friend and I will sincerely miss her.

My thoughts and Prayers are reaching out to Kathys family at this difficult time. I remember Kathy as a little girl growing up in Douglas Acres, she always had a big smile and an ornery twinkle in her eye. The McDaniel was such a close and loving family and have endured so much sorrow, but continued on with a smile for everyone. Rest In Peace my friend🙏
