Charles "Charlie" Freund

Charles “Charlie” Freund, 96, passed away October 26, 2021, at EveryStep Bright Kavanagh Center.

Charlie was born June 21, 1925, to Joseph and Winifred (Kneble) Freund in Washington, Iowa. Charlie grew up on a farm and was in charge of the chicken coop, which he did not like. He spent a couple of years in the orphanage in Davenport and he attended high school and Saint Ambrose College there. Charlie spent his working life in the grocery business first at A&P and then 20 some years at Hinky Dinky and retired after several years of management.

Charlie is survived by his son, Steve (Mitzi) Freund; daughter-in-law, Debra Freund; brother, Tom (Shirley) Freund; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, Rozanne Galligan and Mary Ann Papian and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret; son, Michael; nine brothers, Harold, Victor, Louis, John, Leonard, Omer, Tom, Hubert, and Gerald; and his parents.

The family will greet friends Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Charles will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.
